The Widner Family

Team Leader: Sean Averso and Lynda Wagner

The Widner family of Bradenton was just that. A regular family with two children. The story began when their young son received a grass burn from playing football with his friends. The wound didn't appear serious however a month later, he started to complain about an upset stomach and a sore throat. With a fever of 104, he was rushed to the hospital. His leg turned black as if it were burnt. He had developed a strep infection in the wound. He spent 74 days in intensive care. His liver and kidneys shut down and he had to be put on dialysis. His ventilator helps him breath and a feeding tube feeds him. It has been over a year and he remains in a Fort Lauderdale rehab center working hard to improve his mobility so he can come home. This young man has outstanding achievement in performing community service here in Manatee County. Can you help bring him home? The Makeover Committe is retrofitting their home to accommodate his wheelchair.

The Widner home project is under the direction of Russell LaGrande, La Maison Homes and Shane Rogers of Capstone. Potter Contracting did an excellent job at the interior demolition on April 23rd. Since then, the home has been gutted out. Breathe Easy has performed a total mold remediation on the property. The project was halted temporarily due to concrete vendor issues, but we are so thrilled to learn that Mark Williams Construction has come forward to get involved in this project. The concrete portion should be complete by June 20th and then the project can proceed as planned.

Despite economic set backs the project continues to take positive steps. The drywall has now been completed thanks to Korbin Builders Supply and Nat Coffey of N.W.C Custom Trim & Design.
